Does anyone know of a source of supply for inverted levers to fit 1″ bars?
Through the vintage and War Department AJS and Matchless forum (no less!) I became acquainted with Swen Dolenc in Germany. Apart from having an enormous collection of vintage AJSs, Swen had also arranged to remanufacture Bowden-type controls including inverted levers. I can vouch for the fact that they are an excellent copy of the originals down to the Bowden logo and shiny nikel plating. The prices were also competitive when compared to the cost of other replicas I’ve seen at autojumbles.
I’m not sure whether Bowden were used on Scotts but they certainly look the part.
I know that Swen has been busy at work recently and he may have difficulty in responding quickly – because of this and usual security issues I am loath to give his email address out over the open forum. I’m also unsure whether he has stock but if you contact me by direct email I will introduce you.
For those of you who expressed an interest on the last occasion – I have been informed that Swen is taking orders for the 1″ bar Bowden comntrols which I referred to in the above posting.
He will be producing inverted levers, amal type single pull twist grips, left hand and right hand air/mag levers. Usually available in chrome or Nickel plating but not sure on this occasion.
Please send me an email if you are interested and I will make further enquiries regarding cost and will co-ordinate supplies if you wish. On the last occasion I bought some of the controls their prices were good compared to others , but admittedly still not cheap!
I would just like to re-iterate Lewis’s comments. I’ve known Swen for many years now and he’s a seriously good bloke! His levers are good too!

Thank you Erik for the reminder about posting pictures … here goes for pictures of the levers concerned (I hope it works !)

Well that didn’t work did it? Try this……

(!)
Lewis – i’ve edited your email to show the picture – need to uncheck the ‘disable BBC’ option in your message to enable the link to work. Regards, Paul (webmaster@scottownersclub.org)
Congrats on the picture ;o)
Wow, that is some nice lever work! I do like the old style twistgrip too! Might be something for my flyer (but then in nickel).
My last post on this topic, I promise !
I am about to place an order with Swen and therfore need final orders from anyone who wants me to co-ordinate matters for them. The prices will depend on the numbers ordered , I am told, but these were the prices in 2005:
twist grip: euro 80
single lever euro 60
set inverted levers euro 75
clutch lever euro 75
I understand that plating costs are up and, of course, the £ is down against the euro. Nonetheless prices should not vary too far from these.
Anyone who is interested please email me by Sunday and I will send in the Order. Those who have already replied, please confirm your orders as I may have misaid your email (!!).
Thanks
Dear Lewis,
Before ordering, I need to know how the Bowden wires are connected to the inverted levers. Are they ment to be led through (inside) the handlebar or on the outside?
Best regards,
Carl
Hi Carl
The cables are fed through the inside of the handlebars via access holes near the steering head.
Dave
Hi Lewis,
Are there any news from Swen Dolenc about inverted levers yet?
Kind regards,
Carl
Sorry, yes there is. Swen has completed the manufacture and I have paid him for our order. He was beginning to dispatch orders 19 June so I expect that I will have the levers next week. I will then forward your order to you. Forgive me but I don’t have price detals to hand but they worked out very little more than the older prices I quoted at the outset.
