Evening all,
This may seem a basic question but I am going to have to have some way of stopping Bitsa when at the MOT as the only way at the moment is to turn the fuel off, not very quick!
I have seen some modified points covers on other members machines but I am unwilling to do this as I only have one and it’s an original period part (at least as far as I know) plus there is no space to fit any kind of button as you then cannot get the clip back on!
Suggestions anyone??
James
I stop my two speeder by putting my hand over the carb. Not very sophisticated but it works fine.
But if this works at the MOT I don’t know as we do not have that in Holland… luckily…
And the hand on carb thing is a bit difficult on a Flyer… if you want to keep your fingers anyway…
My Flyer has a BTH magneto and that has a provision in the pointscover (a screw) for killing the engine.
Isn’t it possible to make a temporary cover with a swich for MOT and switch it back later?
Cheers,
Erik
Hi James
You should be able to buy a mag points cover with provision for a cutout from people who service and repair mags. Check in Old Bike Mart or Classic Bike etc. or on the web. Then the only other bits you will need are a length of wire and a horn button.

Hi, If you don’t want to get a new cover why not adjust the throttle stop so the engine stops when you shut the throttle?
Hi All,
Cheers for the information, I have uploaded a pic so you can see my problem, there is no way of fitting any other cover as the clip is in there for good.

We did try setting the throttle to kill the engine when closed but ‘Bitsa’ just played up and would not run properly.
Cheers

Maybe I miss it on the picture but what do you mean with “the clip is in there for good”? Couldn’t you just change covers? Or fit a new clip? Those are readily available too…
Hi Eric,
The clip is seized in and I have no wish to break it off, I have very bad luck with things like this! I have looked at other covers but they are too thick.
Unless anyone has a scrap cover in their spares box which I can modify?
I am going to Kempton Park at the weekend (Saturday, weather dependant) so I will have a rumage there, they give the rust away free!!
Maybe there will be a Scott for sale that is not overpriced or an Oxfordshire registered flat tanker (or Scott!)………….I can but hope!
Cheers all,
James
Regarding the P.M. I sent you; can you resend as the previous attempt got “eaten” by my over enthuastic anti-spam program?!!!
Evening all,
There were no Scott’s at Kempton Park, just alot of bikes that had had their numbers pinched as usual.
We did find a rough points cover so that will be modified to suit. I had a look at Scruffy’s mag/dyno and the bakelite points cover has the facility far a kill switch which gives me something to copy!

hi I have fitted a kill switch to the bth mag on my scott,I found a points cover with provision for a switch and have wired it to a horn button and it works fine but I have used ht cable as it seems to fit the outlet on the cover but it looks a bit of “overkill” I know that Im only earthing the primary voltage on the mag,What does everybody else use?thanks, phil.
Hi
I have an idea .
Im not sure if it works.
You can attach a cable with one end to the condenser,
the other end to a small plate of metal, which You bolt somewhere (the plate should face bare metal). If You push the plate against the metal(Engine case should work fine)the engine should stop, because of a short circuit.
(at least it works on mopeds )
cheers alex
