Hi all,
In March me andvmy family will visit the UK again for two weeks. We will be staying in a cottage in Northleach (South East of Cheltenham) for a week and after that a week in Frinton-on-Sea (South of Harwich). Of course we have been searching the net for things to do but it is always a good idea to ask “the locals”.
So, if any of you know of something that we simply must see please share!
Cheers,
Erik
You shouldn’t miss Westonbirt arbouretum, the national tree collection. Feel free to e-mail if we can help you, of course drop by for a coffee if you fancy 😀 We are at Sherston, about 20 minutes from Northleach.
Cheers, Chris.
Hello Erik,
Northleach is very close to Bourton on the Water, which is very picturesque, on the slow, wide River Windrush.
In the village, behind The New Inn, is an outside model of Bourton, which I used to enjoy as a kid. I was always intrigued that within the model, is a model of the model etc., if you understand what I mean.
Nowadays there is also a small interesting motor museum, with loads of paraphernalia, and a small car “Brum” which appeared in a children’s television series.
Bourton can get very busy with tourists – nearby villages of Lower Slaughter & Upper Slaughter are equally pleasant, but without the commercialism.
There are good photos if you “Google” the above – don’t forget our “Tourist Information Centres”
I am basing this on my assumption that your children are of young school age.
Sorry you are not venturing up north – maybe next time.
Kind regards,
David.
Thanks guys for the tips so far. Bourton was already on our list being so close. I did not know about the Arbouretum but I don not think my kids (2,5 and 4,5) would be that much interested…. 😉
So far the to do list around Northleach is quite packed. The one around Frinton is not yet, so any tips are still welcome!
Cheers,
Erik
Hi Erik
COLCHESTER is not far from Frinton. It is the oldest town in the country and has Roman connections – castle, remnants of the Roman wall, etc. Not of much interest to toddlers though !! There is a good Zoo which certainly will interest them and it is very well run, with good facilities. Our grandchildren always want to go there when they stay. It is only about 5 miles from where we live if you like the idea of a visit – you would be very welcome. Postcode ( our house ) is CO5 7RU if you want to Google it.
Regards and best wishes

So far we have had a very nice week in Northleach. We had a lovely cottage and nice weather all week. Amongst others we visited Glouchester (wonderfull cathedral), the motor museum in/and Bourton on the water, Oxford (the (free!) museum of national history allone is worth a visit, the kids loved the dinos) and had a nice day out with Thomas the tankengine.
We are now in Frinton in a cottage that does not look half as good on the outside as the one in Northleach but turned out to be really well equiped and very spacy. We will go an visit Colchester zoo this week. And probably Colchester castle. And the beach of course.
So, that is enough non Scott talk I guess 😉
Cheers,
Erik
