I have been asked for a colour match for a 1960 Scott in red.
Does anyone know what exact colour it should be and if a there is a modern car colour that is a match?
Geoff Green
Colour differed slightly over production years, as parts were painted in batches.
If you are re-finishing the whole of the “red” parts, then the colour to use is Octoral Ford Aporto Red – Code 451, which I matched to an original NOS mudguard which had been wrapped from new.
A couple of days ago, while on holiday in Norfolk, I came across the Norfolk Motorcycle Museum in the railway station yard at North Walsham, and they have a Brum Scott with gold paintwork. The reg is YUG 803. I don’t know if it is one of the two (?) done in gold from new. The story goes that Matt Holder took two sets of ‘tinware’ ( tank, oil tank, toolbox, mudguards) to his usual stove enamelling business, and while there saw a set of BSA Gold Flash parts being collected by a customer. He liked what he saw, and on a whim decided to have the Scott parts done in the same colour.
YUG 803 carries a tax disc that has only just expired, but it is looking to be in need of a bit of TLC. Next to it stands a 1929ish Flying Squirrel Tourer that I forgot to make a note of as the proprietor was quizzing me about Scotts. Nothing spectacular, with the wrong mudguards, later exhaust system, wrong handlebars and controls, and a foot-change conversion. Again needing TLC. The museum does have a website, https://www.mc-museum.freeserve.co.uk
however the machine list is dated 2004, and doesn’t include the Scotts.

I paid a visit to Geoff Hearn today at Lowdham, and we were talking about the red, black and gold variations of Brum Scotts. He told me that his brother bought a new Brum from Matt Holder that was painted GREEN, including the cylinder barrel !!! Does anyone remember it, or know what became of it ?
Brian
Geoff – As a thought, If your coming down the M6 at all your more than welcome to pop in and see a correct “red” on my 1958 Scott – which also has the correct lining on the tank (gold and orange stripes).
Some of the bikes Matt produced had only red petrol and oil tanks with black mudguards, but most had the mudguards red as well.
Contact Geoff Case – he’s the dion of all things you need to know about “Birmingham” Scotts.
Thanks everyone for your replies, particularly Stan’s offer.
I have been trying to help a foreign owner called Tore Lundberg and will pass on the details to him.
Thanks again everyone
Geoff
Hello All
Picked up some Brum spares on my way to Stafford last Saturday and got this tank as part of the deal. Seems like the factory wanted to brighten the Brum’s up a bit. I have a couple of photos but don’t seem to be able to add them to this note.
