Can anyone advise on the best way to secure the screw on filler cap assembly as used on clubman special. When they are screwed up tight they are off centre. I’m worried about them getting nicked if they aren’t tight quite apart from leakage.

A few turns of PTFE plumber’s thread tape ought to both tighten the fit and stop leakage. Worth a try anyway ?

Make a very thin cork gasket as used on push-and-turn caps. With a bit of variation you should get them central in the tightened position too.

Yes I thought of that as well and I think it might be the way to go. At the moment the fillers still have their 1939 items fitted which look perfect but may leak after all these years?
