Neil, if you have a look in Scott Technicalities there is an article on how to set up the gear lever – that may be a starting point. I would be tempted to whip off the clutch and check it, something is not quite right. It may also contribute to the 3rd gear issue. Violent should not be leaking around the plugs. I think there is plenty of info + much wiser folks than myself that may have a better idea. There is a lot in technicalities and also the back issues of Yowel.
