Hi Ian, I too am new to this world of Scott so the worst person to give advise and yet again on a similar path to you.

I found an older tech document by the venerable Mr Moss who said he thought synthetic 2 stroke oils were not good for the engine and espoused the use of monograde 40 grade mineral oils ( Castrol R)  If we consider how many years these engines ran in bog standard 40 or 50 grade engine oils then that must surely tell us something? I have taken this advice and run on 50 grade this summer and she runs just fine with hardly any smoke. Rogers advice was spit spit x 5 then a drip if running only pumped oil or spit spit x 7 then drip if running a little oil in the fuel as well. NEVER run with oil in the fuel only.
