I have no spare mudguard stays, but my wife Lilleba and I did the Route 66 by rental car from Santa Fe to Los Angeles 4 years ago – great fun! As you probably know, Route 66 is now in bits and pieces after the big Interstate road has taken over the more serious traffic – but some of the pieces are quite long and pittoresque. When approaching the Californian border you can even make a sidetrip to a touristic village where the original London Bridge has been erected. You can drive on it with your car.
