Yes, I guess it would be wiser to have a new member approved before accepting him/her….
I myself do moderate a Maicoletta scooter forum and had to do so when I found my forum crawling with spammers that did not even know the difference between a Vespa and Maicoletta… Now, all new memberships go through me and after I read the comment of the candidate member I can choose to accept him/her or not. This keeps the forum clean.
And something other that would be nice is the possibility to upload pictures from your own computer without the need of hosting them elsewhere…
But hey, there is always something to wish for ;o)
