I can confirm this. When I was am member it was not possible for me to get access to the members area. I can´t remember why, maybe it was too complicated or I am to simple.
If there is a barrier to keep some people out – WHY? – this barrier should be made in a way which allows easy access for members. If it is complicated it cannot be of much interest either because a small number of people will usually not produce interesting things over a long period.
