I did some experimenting and found that the ammeter will swing far into the charged side , to the right if I run the headlight switch on the headlight on position while the dip beam bulb wire is disconnected.Then all the alternator coils are connected and making surplus current therefore causing a far right swing of the ammeter needle at a high idle . The battery is fully charged. When switching on the high beam, using up much of the surplus , the ammeter returns to the center So everything seems to be functioning as intended.
