I don’t think that ‘free’ (elemental) chlorine is added to pool water as it would be far too dangerous to handle. They will use something like sodium hypochlorite, which isn’t volatile. The chlorine smell in swimming pools is ‘free’ chlorine produced when kids (and some adults !) pee into the water, and the urine reacts with the sodium hypochlorite, producing the chlorine.
