Hi Eric, The frame number is usually found on the left (near side) frame tube ,alongside the welded on gusset , by the radiator. Being stamped on a tube, the top and bottom of the numbers are feint and sometimes read incorrectly. The first digit is always the letter S , but is some times reported as the number 5. The stamping would have been clearer if it had been on the flat surface of the gusset close by. Having a clear frame number gives the best chance of dating the Birmingham Scott. Grit blasting, rubbing down, filler and painting often loses the lettering completely!
