The end cover is being held by the large bearing which is sunk into the case ,around the area were the serial number is stamped.
Apply a bit of heat, not a lot as someone used to say, the cap should just pull away.
so the whole job can be done without removing the complete box from the machine, and most of the clutch if you want to.
