The clip on my 1949 Shipley is made of quite thin spring steel, about 1-1/2 inches wide, and is riveted to the aluminium cover. It pushes onto the brake crossover shaft as Brian suggested and grips it firmly enough to prevent rattling. Anything other than spring steel would soon get loose, though I don’t know how to make one from scratch. Any suggestions ?
