Sounds more like a 1931-1933 single top downtube framed Flying Squirrel, or maybe Sprint Special, (similar frame). The top hose has to go inside the slot in the core or it would be hitting the single central downtube. And, it’s not the downpipe, it’s the up-pipe !!—-Hot water in the engine rises, goes into the top of the radiator, then sinks as it cools, and flows out at the bottom, back into the engine. Thermo-syphon effect. Flyer radiators have a larger diameter top section than a Super Squirrel rad, and the latter are also narrower overall than a Flyer rad.
