Hey guys,
I’m Jonathan, 19 years old, and I live in the south of France.
My father has collected old bikes for a long time, now his collection ranges from a Panther 600cc Sloper, Royal enfield bullets, Brough superior SS100, and a load more less interesting bikes, as well as some old cars.
Amongst his bike collection, he has a lovely 1929 Scott Flying Squirrel TT rep. It is an original one, it has been restored a while back, but it’s in good general condition. Not perfect, but it’s still a lovely bike. The front mudguard is not original, and I’m sure a couple of other bits aren’t either.
Here is a video of me riding his bike (the video is a couple of years old): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vAsn-PGssE
Out of all of his motorbikes that I have had a go on, my two favorites are his BSA Bantam D14/4, and the Scott… I just bought myself a Bantam D14/4, and now I’m looking to get myself a Scott…
However, when I want something, I want it to be just as I want it… I don’t mind changing bits, but in the end it has to be how I like it! haha
That basically means that I wouldn’t be satisfied with any other model of Scott besides one that looks and rides like a TT rep.
I’m not someone who cares if a bike is original or not, or if parts are correct or not.
I am looking for an old Scott, with a 600cc engine, same power as the TT rep (not sure if the TT engine was tuned up compared to “normal” 600 scotts). I want the same tank as my fathers TT rep, with the white sides, and the “ribbed edge”, just like this photo
I also want it to have hand gears. I don’t mind if the gear box is the close ratio TT gearbox, or the higher geared normal one. Higher geared is even better for me, as I like to stay at a nice speed without over revving the engine.
If possible I would like it to have the gurder-like telescopic forks (like my fathers one).
I have an old car which should fetch the same kind of money as I hope the Scott I’m looking for would be worth.
I do not really care about the condition of the paint, if it’s oily rag it’s even better (but I’m guessing oily rag is more valuable than a restored one?).
I want the bike for daily use, so engine wise it has to be perfectly reliable (even though I’m used to fixing old bikes on the side of the road!).$
What do you guys think a Scott like I’m looking for would be worth? I’m hoping to get something below 10 000€. I’ve seen a couple of adverts nearer the 30 000€ price range, not sure if that was because they were special bikes, or if they were just optimistic. Maybe I’m too optimistic? If I am don’t hesitate to tell me!
As I said, I’m not fussed about originality, it’s just that I want one that looks “good” and rides like the TT rep. Unfortunately my father doesn’t want to part with his! haha
Thanks in advance!
Jonathan
WOW ! Nice to see my 1929 Isle-of-Man Senior TT bike on the website, plus my red garden wall….
Good luck in your quest for a bike.
Brian
your Scott is lovely. Obviously a bit more special than the type I’m looking for, but I know that if I had the money I wouldn’t hesitate a single second to buy it. I love the all black tank and the racy look of it. Isn’t it nice to dream? haha
😀 😀 😀 Hi Jonathan and welcome to the Scott clan. Why dont you ride his TT Rep mate? Be good to see it used and save you a bit of cash. Seriously though. TT Reps are something quite special and come up for sale rather infrequently. However I see Yesterdays in Holland had one a while back as did Bonhams. Keep an eye in Yowl mate. Good luck with the search! Regards Ted 😀 😀 😀
Once I have my bike license (I am in the process of getting it) I will ride his, but I want my own, at least I will be able to do what I like to it, and if I accidentaly scratch it or damage it it will be my own problem! (not that I plan on doing that of course…)
It’s mostly because I plan on doing a few trips on the scott. I currently ride on old mopeds, I have done a few trips, my biggest trip was 1500km on my own on a rusty old 1963 Peugeot BB3SP sports moped. Of course I had to fix it a few times on the side of the road, but that’s the fun of it. I went to spain, through the pyrenees and montserrat, all the way to Valencia. Some of the roads were lovely and I could only dream of riding a Scott up the Montserrat mountains…
I do plan on using his quite a bit, but I will never have as much fun on it as if it was mine. I had the same with his BSA Bantam. I had lots of fun on his, but now I have my own, I can do what I like to it. It doesn’t mean I will paint it metallic red with flames on it, it just means that if I want to change the gearing, the adjustments, and a couple of accessories, I won’t even need to ask, and I know that I will also be able to make the most out of the engine… (without blowing it!)
I’m hoping I can get around 10000€ for my car, it’s an old MEsserschmitt KR200. It’s a project, but a restored one just sold for 56000€… (which is crazy!), if that can get me a scott, I would be the happiest kid (wait, am I still a kid?) in the world.
Hi Jonathan, try https://www.pembrokeshireclassicss.com ,he is advertising ” 30 Scott TT Rep VSC, barn find” in this months Old Bike Mart. Check it out online and give him a call if it is what you are after. He has had it for some time now, the last of 4 Scotts he had for sale. This one has been advertised for quite a while now so be careful. Jeff Reed.

PS If you PM me with your email address I can send you quite a lot of info on the bike later tonight
Thanks for the link, I found it a few minutes ago. It’s nearly what I’m looking for, but it looks like it has been bodged (brake pedal, footrests, seat, numberplate). I find the price too high for what it is, and I’m guessing other people think the same as me, seeing as it is still for sale. What do you think?
One big problem with that bike is that it has foot gears, and one of the things I love about the scott is the “deadly” gearchange. I love it so much, I built my own moped (a bitza) inspired bythe scott. The only resemblance is the hand gear change, but it’s thanks to the scott that I actually built it!
If I end up getting a foot gear change scott, is it easy to convert it to hand gear change, or is the complete gearbox different? I’m guessing the gearbox assembly would be different as the hand gear change one wouldn’t have the “ratchet”.
Same goes for the brake pedal. I love the design of the inverted brake lever on my fathers TT rep, it’s so simple yet “elegant”.
I’m sorry if I’m a pain with all of these questions, but I don’t want to buy the wrong bike.
Thanks in advance,
jonathan
😀 😀 It aint a big deal re the footchange conversion mate. The bits are around eventually. It is indeed a project bike. “Wot Larks Eh Pip!” (Charles Dickens) 😀 😀
