Having read the posts about half compression valves I have decided to re-fit mine. At present they are on a spare barrel – my question is, what is the best way to unscrew the locking rings which are tightly done up? Heat and penetrating oil with gentle tapping hasn’t worked and I don’t want to do damage.
Also, while away having work done a while back the barrel lost its exhaust port covers, can anyone help wirh a pair?
I made up a tool from a an old tube spanner and ground the end to provide four tangs to engage with the locking ring. A piece of steel tube of the right diameter and adequate wall thickness or even solid rod will obviously do. Having the four tangs spreads the load and reduces the chance of damage.
