Can anyone tell me whether the gear oil pump as fitted to the ’26 – ’28 two speeder oil tank, was spring loaded so as to close and pump oil automatically to the gear, or is it push down to pump?

Hello Dave the one that I owned was push down to pump not sure if this was as it should have been , Ifitted a dripper a better option for me.

The 1926 2 Speeder I had was push down to pump. My 1930 model 2 Speed with a horizontal pump under the tank is push also. I like the idea of a push as I believe it forces the oil to the end of the gear whereas with a drip the oil may largely stay at one end of the gear.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I asked was that in a box along with the tank/pump, was a spring that fitted perfectly within the pump body. It did limit the stroke of the pump to about two thirds of it’s maximum but would still pump some oil. Maybe in the long and distant pass someone thought it might be a good idea!
