498 short-stroke Flyer pistons wanted

Hi,
I’m looking for a decent pair of pistons for a 498cc short-stroke Flyer engine that has previously been bored to plus.030″, but has slight ‘tram-line’ scoring down one bore. I think that a pair of plus .040″ pistons would be OK when it has been rebored, but would also be happy to buy a pair at plus .050″ or even plus .060″. Lots of parts available for exchange if preferred to cash. Contact details are as listed in Yowl under Eastern Section Details.

Hi Brian,

I have two pairs that belong to a customer but one piston has been knocked and is 10 thou oval, the other pair are badly scored. Both may requalify. After hunting the universe for a replacement pair for him I drew a blank. I have ended up with what are perhaps the last pair of blank castings in existence and I’ll be machining them to fit his barrel. If only the club were capable of organising themselves to make pistons we would not be in this mess now, how long has this been a problem that the tech ctte have failed to address? Next week I will start CAD of steel die cast tooling for all piston sizes to create my own supply. I’ve got 3D CNC gear so I’m just going to make my own as I don’t have the luxury of the SOC funds to procrastinate with.

The problem goes back donkey’s years to well before we even had a technical committee, and when Hepolite still had the Scott piston dies in storage. Lots of lost opportunities over many years……

Hi Brian, Just arrived back from looking through a (large)box of used Scott pistons,(Graham”s stuff.) I have in my grubby hands a pair of salvageable plus 40, short stroke pistons. shame,this pair are 600″s as i’ve just noticed you need 500″s !! Sods law. Regards Geoff.

The ones in the June Yowl are long-stroke, not short-stroke, but thanks Geoff, Richard, and Eddie for your interest.
