I’ve just bought my next rebuild project, a single-downtube framed bike built in 1930, and currently a complete basket case except that the forks and front mudguard are still in the frame, and the Vintage-Close gearbox is all complete, having been rebuilt by Eddie Shermer a few years ago.
The brake shoes for the 7″ Webb front brake are missing, which is a bit odd because this was also a missing item in my last rebuild, WX179, my 1929 works TT bike ! What is it with these things ? Do they evaporate into thin air ?
So, does anyone out there have a spare pair that I can buy please ? For ease of identification, they are fabricated STEEL items, not alloy castings, however the cast alloy ones used by Velocette in the same hub would probably do the job ! My contact details are as listed in Yowl under ‘Section Information’, or send me a PM.
