Firstly I would like to thank Eddie and Margaret for the last eight years running this event.
I have been coming to this gathering for several years now both with and without bikes and hope to continue for years to come even though I have a good deal of travelling to do so.
Numbers have or appear to be dropping off for bikes and visitors alike. The first year I went to Abbotsholme the grassed area below the now accepted gravel area was full of bikes, this year appeared to myself to be the lowest attended in a long time. Is there a reason for this or several reasons.
Is the Event carried out on the wrong weekend for people, other events clashing. ??
Is the event too long at four days for people to stay, would three days be better or even two. ??
Not enough auto jumble available n Sunday, ??
Trophy’s not given to several classes like they used to be,??
Only 1 raffle prize, not enough interest from different sections,???
At last correspondence with Eddie no one has offered to take over the organisation and as Abbotsholme is surly the correct place to have the annual Gathering and the school are still in favour of hosting the event I am quite willing to meet Eddie and take over the reins. I therefore ask if anyone has got sensible ideas to get in touch and let’s get the numbers up at the next Gathering. The good old saying, use it or loose it comes to mind. Kev
I have reposted here as I’ve been advised that many members fail to look at the members area due to forgotten passwords etc.
Is their anyone else interested in helping to organise the weekend.
I’m open to any sensible suggestions, just get in touch.
What do YOU want or what would You like to see happen at the Gattering,
Kev
Dear Kevin, There is a questionair about from Lewis that covers the points you have raised.
This is due in this coming weekend.
Regards Paul
First of all, thank you Kevin for putting yourself forward.
As Paul has indicated I have circulated a questionnaire seeking members’ views on the Abbotsholme weekend and the future of the club’s annual gathering/event (thanks Paul). At present I have sent copies only to the members who attended the whole of the weekend but I acknowledge that there there is a wider constituency so I will post the questions in the members’ area so as to allow all members who wish to to have their say. Please take the time to reply if you have anything whatsoever to say – or be prepared live with the consequences !
The Committee are meeting in October when the issue will be considered fully in the light of members’ replies to the questionnaire. Whilst it will be necessary to make a quick decision as to next year’s event there is this short time to take stock and ponder.
Thank you to all those who have already replied to the questionnaire.
To me this questionnaire points directly at the few that can make the hole weekend, not the majority of members can perhaps for variuose reasons only attend on the Saturday or Sunday. if it was not for the members that can only make it one day there would not be a rally at all
😀 😀 Could I just mention the following. As a non member (although an associate member as my partner is indeed a member)
Why not open the questionnaire to all interested Scott aficionados Via the Open page?? If we want to encourage new members and a wider public then these responses are a really seriously valuable source of information to move the Scott Owners Club forward. The new generation want (and indeed expect) to interact via computers, Its immediate, useful and expected in a digital age. It is indeed a “No Brainier” Chaps!!!! 😀 😀 😀 Regards Ted
