Amac Carb

My first post on the forum despite owning my Scott for 4 years! Anyway I have a late 27 flyer and it currently has an Amal carb on it, but the VMCC build sheet for the bike lists an Amac carb DW2901 as being fitted originally. Any info on Scott Amac carbs welcome, many thanks Steve.

I have a TT AMAC carb that has the three stud flange fitting, not the usual AMAC clip/stub fitting. John Underhill said that it was the only one he had ever seen, but I believe that Glynn Chambers had another at one time. John said that he thought it was made for the 1926 MGP machines built for Noel Mavrogordato and Paul Stables, and never put into production, so very,very rare. The Mavro machine has fairly recently emerged from long-term hibernation, and is being rebuilt by Ian Bingham. He is coming to see me in September, and I will be interested to hear what carburettor he is planning to use… 😉

On the production 1927 Flyers, the carbs were fitted on a cranked inlet stub, so were vertical instead of the 38 degree later fitment. A direct fitting Binks was also offered “purely for racing”.

Thanks for the advice on the amac carb, its sounds like getting an amac carb to replace the current amac might be tricky! My 27 Flyer is built to the 28 spec rather than the 27 spec, registered in nov 27.
