Andre steering damper screw

Hi everybody,

I’m just finishing my Andre steering damper on my 27 flyer and found one problem. I need to make a main screw holding all unit in the forks. It’s 1/2″, but what TPI? Seems to be 24 or 26, can someone confirm the information?

Hi Martin, Sorry for the slow response. The thread is 1/2″ X 24TPI, an odd size that doesn’t seem to fit with any standard thread lists, but I was easily able to buy both a tap and a split die nut from Tracy Tools.

1/2″ x 24tpi is an S.A.E. special pitch (Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc)

I just wonder why they didn’t use Cycle Thread, in either the 20 TPI or 26TPI usual for that diameter ?

Hi, thanks a lot for the information. Pavel Simek has this die, so it’s gonna be easy to make one. Yes, weird size. I also thought 26 would make sense, I wasn’t sure, it wasn’t easy to measure it, especially when I have completed bike, thread is quite deep. Thanks a lot.
