Anticlockwise BTH magneto wanted

Hi, I’m still looking for a BTH magneto suitable for a 1931-1933 single downtube framed Flying Squirrel, or Sprint Special, or Dirt-Track Model Scott, ie. one that is anticlockwise rotation and intended to be driven off the clutch drum. This is for a friend’s bitsa Flyer that has an early 30s PZ engine with no magneto drive sprocket on the flywheel. If we can’t find one it will mean a full engine stripdown to install a flywheel that has a mag drive sprocket. My contact details are as listed in Section Information, or send me a PM.

I had exactly the magneto that you are looking for. However, I had the direction changed by Stuart Towner, so that I could fit it to my 1930 TT Rep ; he said that the anti-clockwise parts were very hard to obtain.
If you contact him, he may still have the parts (it was only a few months ago) and perhaps build up a suitable magneto from the many parts/spares that he has.

I do have a couple of sets of Anticlockwise points assemblies for BTH magnetos, that John Underhill gave me years ago, when I was in my ‘Sprint Special phase’. So all I need is ANY BTH magneto, Clockwise or Anticlockwise. Not sure about the advance-and-retard mechanism though…. Are they reversible ? It may be cheaper to strip the engine and exchange the flywheel to one with a magneto drive sprocket.

I think you need to change the cam ring as well as the points. Otherwise the points will not open at the point of maximum flux. I did this on a 4 cyl Bosch ZU4 which was the wrong direction.
