Anticlockwise magneto

Hi all, I am still, still, still looking for an anticlockwise magneto, preferably a BTH, as fitted to 1931-1933 single downtube framed Flyers, Sprint Specials, and Dirt-Track Scotts, all of which have the clutch driven off an extra sprocket on the clutch drum. Just to clarify the rotation, it is anticlockwise when viewed from the sprocket end. Surely somebody has got one on the shelf ?! Cash waiting or can exchange for all sorts of vintage Scott parts. What a pity you didn’t ask the question a few months earlier ; you could have had mine.
I have a BTH competition mag that was used on a racing Triumph and therefore anti-clockwise (the vendor claimed that, although officially sold from 1931, it was actually purchased late 1930 and therefore suitable for my bike – could be true!).
I took it to Stuart Towner who converted it to clockwise for me.
I suggest that you give him a call (details on the internet) as he has numerous BTH and other old mags, one of which might suit you ; a very nice person who races a Rudge.

Hi Chris, I’ve been asking for one since last November when I first got the basket case project….
I did manage to find one a couple of days ago, a very early Lucas AC2, that was a copy of the Thomson-Bennett, that was a copy of a Bosch. It was advertised as being suitable for a flat tank Douglas or Rover 8hp flat twin car. Of course on those machines, being four-strokes, the mag turns at half engine speed, so on a Scott it will need to live a much harder engine speed life, and I don’t know if it will be up to the task. A nice BTH K2R1 as used on Dirt-Track Scotts, would have been a much better proposition ! So I’m still looking….
