Brass stop for little end

Hi, How do I fix the brass stop for little end in place to retain the gudgeon pin, it looks like mine were originally simply hammered in and thus expanded to lock them in place. Is this the correct technique ?
I was going to make the plugs out of brass rod , is this the normal method ?

ps I might venture off the Isle of Wight some day and meet other club members at one of the meetings, I don’t know anyone on the island with a Scott

I have recently made some out of phosphor bronze. They are held in place by a 1/16″ pin through the gudgeon pin diameter about 3/16″ from each end.
