BRUM Rear Brake Torque Arm.

I had a call last evening from a Brum owner inquiring if is normal for the brake arm to have a kink in the middle. NO IT”S NOT! The arm is about 10 inches long x 1/4″ thick x 1 inch wide. The hole in the middle is so big it weakens the arm a LOT. There is only about 1/8 ” either side of metal left. This is very dodgy and unsafe. Throw it away and make a new WIDER arm, using a length of 2 inch x 1/4 ( 50mm x 6mm). mild steel or “Dural” hard alluminium. Taper both ends back to 1 inch ( lots of hack sawing!) so you end up with an elongated diamond shaped arm. The arm is now much stronger in the middle, where it needs to be. Check yours before it lets you down(with a bump!!).

If you want to see a photo, he has got them on eBay, together with his stainless steel gear pedals in two different types, and sets of stainless radiator washers and rubbers. I can vouch for his workmanship. His services include milling, turning, grinding, oil hardening, TIG and MIG welding, press and sheet metalwork, grit and bead blasting, paintwork, brake drum truing, retoothing of sprockets, and general repairs.

Brian thanks for the advert,I realise my prices might sound expensive but making parts for Scotts has to be treated as one offs, the numbers are never going to be sufficient to get the price down, the average workers wage these days is probably more than I earn from making these parts.
