I’m putting my Super Squirrel racer back to run on petrol after a couple of years on methanol. It worked very well on methanol, far better in fact than previously on petrol, but I’m going to concentrate on getting it to run well on petrol since the up and coming Silk Scott framed, Moss Engineering engined, racer will also be running the same.
I’ve changed the carb set-up and I now have twin carbs using one of Eddie Shermer’s manifolds. To match the intake gallery area, I need two 1″ carbs to supply (or just fractionally under supply which is better for gas speed and atomisation).
I have one type 76, standard 2 bolt flange (2″ centres) with a 1″ bore and need another one, or at the very least a 1″ type 276 jet block, for which I have a 7/8″ bore body that can be bored out. I actually had the mismatched pair with completely undeveloped jetting (on methanol) for the September Cadwell and it went well, but obviously since I’m going to take it to the dyno and try and get it right, I need the carbs to flow the same.
I’m sure something will come up on ebay eventually but I don’t want to buy a complete carb/float assembly unless I absolutely have to as I don’t need most of it.
Thanks for responding James, but when I saw your pictures I did have to smile to myself. I didn’t stipulate the orientation of the flange because I didn’t think for a minute anyone would come up with one of these. I’m pretty sure I have seen one before but I wouldn’t have known what it fitted so great to have an ID.
It may be that someone would chew your arm off for this…
Nothing so exotic for me, just a ‘standard’ horizontal flange type 76 or 276 1″ bore. The matching 1″ I would have is a 76AE/1AK which would have originally been fitted to a very early 50’s Matchless or AJS (and probably others).
