Andy, I wonder if you ought to contact “British Only Austria” and enquire who makes their range of Scott cogs ? They might consider making a batch of 26T mainshaft gears for you/us, and I note that the gears listed by BOA are no more than 99 Euros each, plus postage, yet their batch sizes must be very small, of a size comparable with the quantity we are interested in….

I did speak to BOA, they couldn’t’ confirm delivery, I will contact them again next week, keep you posted
Just to update, holders rang me today, they are now saying they will be getting the said gears made but can’t give an ETA, this is not the gear maker who has quoted me recently.
Just an update, there were not enough confirmed to make it viable so check this out.
I sent off the drawing of the gear to another gear maker, it’s taken a while but here are the results,
For an order of 10off, £100.00 each + vat, a bit better than the first quote, but I must get 10 confirmed orders to get that price, I will leave it with you all out there to get in touch
Well done Andy. Please put me down for one.
I was going to try Brentwins (Black Country) and Llewellyns (Bristol) but I don’t think you will get much cheaper for this small quantity.
You would think that Holders could at least take confirmed orders with a few for stock and sell them at cost to help shift some of the matching gears that are presumably stuck on their shelves.
If you cannot obtain 10 confirmed orders, maybe the Club would be able to make up the difference using Surplus Assets with the knowledge that the gears would eventually be sold.
Regards, Roger Townsend
Hi Andy, I will have one for about £100 plus VAT, as that is a MUCH more sensible price than what was quoted to you previously. Having had batches of spares made myself I know full well all the tribulations….

Hello Andy – please put me down for one.
Thanks
I have been on to Holders to chase up the two 26t gears that I am short of. They say that they are still waiting for a production space for what will be a small batch. I have pointed out that what I have bought is no use without the last gear in the set (nor is their current stock once we know that a complete set cannot be purchased). I have been asked to ring again in 8 weeks which I will do. I don’t know if all who have posted comments have been in touch with Holders but if not please contact Julie. The greater the number of enquiries the better the chance of some action.
As a backup plan, the gear is available as a stock item from HPC gears at £44.69 +VAT in EN24 steel ( discounted for quantity above 6). The gear is 10DP and 20 degree pressure angle which is the same as the Scott gears. The stock gear has plenty of meat on it for machining to size ( it is not a difficult one to make once the teeth are cut). Heat treatment would be extra as would a case hardening steel such as EN36. There would, I suggest, be no change out of £100 each for small numbers.
As we are getting to the end of the riding season, I suggest we wait for the result of my call to Holders in early December and see what transpires then.

I have been on to Holders every few weeks and get the same response, that’s why i am trying to get enough to make the ten we need for a sensible price.
Hello chaps, to date I have not had enough enquiries for said gear to make it economicallyviable, sorry chaps.i did try.
Many thanks for all your efforts, Andy. It is always appreciated when someone makes an effort for others’ benefit.
What am I going to do with the expensive N.O.S. other gears which I bought?
Jem
Hi Andy,
Now the C/M gears have been priced, please cancel my request for two.
Thanks.

Laurie Erwood.
