Noticed on my 1929 Flying Squirrel the top plate falls out of the outer basket when the clutch is pulled (see picture).
It seems as though the asbestos lining is too thick and the plates do not fit properly, I am going to purchase new friction plates and intermediary plates from scottparts which are approx thickness of 4.8mm to additionally get shot of the asbestos.
However I will need to get the basket re-lined because they are not sold, has anyone done this before? What thickness either side of the basket plate should the ferrodo be?
Matthew, can you check with someone who has a similar basket that yours is the correct one ?.Very early baskets were shallower and took one friction & one plain plate less. However I have had the same problem as you when fitting relined friction plates which were a few thou thicker on the friction material & they all add up extra thickness it was very hard to reduce the thickness.
