CXU700 – any know the history of it?

Hi all,

A customer contacted me asking about the bike in the link above. Although it claims to have original numbers it does look like the mudgusrd stays,levers, seat and a few other small parts are non original. It must have been restored on the last decade looking at the condition of it. Anyone know anything about it?

Hi,
The radiator looks very odd, with the core appearing to be too slim when compared to the header section. In addition the front brake, with a separate torque arm, is not Scott, and looks ( ? ) to be less than the correct 7″ diameter. Toolboxes like that would not be correct for 1936 either. The front forks are not Scott/Webb, (look at the position of the brake adjuster lug, and the parallel section instead of taper tubing ) All things considered, it is considerably overpriced.

The rad core apears to be of post war type rad filler neck angeled back from vertical would be even more so when the bike is off the stand are the handlebar clamps to short to get bars at rear of stem ?. My scott is a long way from perfect but it did not cost mega bucks. Regards D F.

My initial thoughts were it was priced as a fully original machine which it is not, but you never know why things were changed hence the post here, perhaps it would uncover the person/reasons and prove to be an interesting machine. Or then again…. 😀

What has happened… only 2 years ago you could bu decent TT Reps for that money!
