I suppose when you go and buy a pile of bits from an Essex cowboy, (with a very appropriate name as it happens), sooner or later you are going to find the “sting”. The bits cynically tossed in to make the pile look more convincing and complete but prove in fact to be a pig’s orphan which trys to bite you just when you start to think the glass might be half full after all.
If you are reading this fella you know who you are . . .
In my case, (so far), its only turned out to be both the cylinder heads that came with the “kit-o-bits”. The pair would seem to be for 500cc engines, the bulk of the machine, well the crankcase and frame anyway, is in fact a 1950 registered machine fitted with a 600cc DPY engine.
So, the question is has anyone got a cylinder head in good condition that will suit my DPY engine that they are willing to sell?
And while I’m burbling on does anybody need a 500cc head? One of them has been “worked on” but could probably be bought back and still has its original 14mm plug threads. The other has steel spark plug thread inserts but otherwise looks tidy. Neither seems to have much corrosion and no obvious cracks and I’m happy to skim and otherwise tidy up if desired.
