Dowty fork dismantling problem

Thanks to Graham Moag I have a new set of seals for my Dowty forks.
I copied the technicalities section on the forks, made a special peg spanner and then got stuck.

The retaining ring with the slots does turn in the outer tube but does not appear to unscrew to release the assembly.
Same on both sides.

I know it must be me doing it wrong but can’t work out what ❗

Any help is appreciated

The nut screws into the inner stanchion are you holding the bottom of the fork leg to stop it turning?

AH -now I see….

Just need to make a more substantial peg spanner now.

Thanks Eddie,
Made a better tool – well two to be precise and all now on bench dismantled and cleaned.
Just got to work out which seals go where.
Any other tips would be appreciated.
I have looked at all the critical sealing areas and they don’t look too bad.
It is hard not to think in terms of telescopic forks as the design is so different.
