EASTERN SECTION JANUARY MEETING

Hi all, Just a reminder that the Eastern Section January meeting is on Sunday January 14th, approx. 10 am to approx. 12 noon, at the Buttercross pub in the Market Square in Bingham, Notts.. We meet in the Snug, a room near the bottom of the stairs. The pub opens at 8am as it is a Wetherspoons inn, so you can arrive early and have an excellent breakfast for a very reasonable price. Once you have bought a tea or coffee, refills are FREE. As usual, all are welcome, members, non-members, ex-members, friends, and minders.

Motivated by this forthcoming meeting, I dug my barrel/head out of the diesel bath its been in before Christmas. After a moderate amount of “persuasion” the aforementioned item is now in two pieces of the same size as they were originally 8) Thus, I will bring the head and barrel with me as discussion items 😀 As Roger suspected, an excessive skim does not seem to be the reason for the reduced piston clearance as there are no obvious machining marks on the mating surface.

It would be interesting to compare your cylinder head with another one… I wonder if it is one of the heads made for the fairly rare detachable-head short-stroke engines in the early 1930s.

Yes, Roger was wondering that also. I’m guessing simple visual inspection will not be enough to identify such a beastie without (as you say) direct comparison…..

Hi all, I am VERY pleased to report that I had a record attendance of 13 at the meeting, including a new face, Alan Eames, who rode his ‘Brum’ over from Derby. The bike started first kick on departure, which was good to see and hear ! There were no complaints from the staff about a cylinder barrel, two cylinder heads, two inlet stubs, a carburettor, and three veteran B&B twin-lever handlebar controls, all being on the table… Thanks to all.

Ha ha, my bike has NEVER EVER started first kick 😆 As you say, it was a great meeting. As always, all the help and advice is very much appreciated.
