Electric Motor for Roller Starter

I am in the process of building a roller starter, so that I can easily start my three bikes every week.
Do anyone, by any chance, have a 3 horse power single phase electric motor that they would like to sell?

Rather than a mains powered motor, I would use a car starter motor with a 12 volt battery, then it would be fully portable.
A word of advice…. Use a roller that is constant diameter and NOT one that is thinner in the middle. People do that in the belief that it will keep the bike central on the roller. It has exactly the opposite effect, and the bike will slew sideways !

I will give your advise a bit of thought.
I managed to pick up a roller starter off Ebay.
It is double width with constant diameter rollers, designed for a car wheel to provide the necessary drive.
However, it also has a sprocket for a chain drive (which I intend to use for the motor).

Yes indeed. The item being driven will always track to the “high point” until a certain point (of slow speed/wide driven component) is reached then it tracks to the low point.
Something as fast/narrow as a bike wheel will definitely go to the high point.

Another point in favour of a 12V starter motor is that a 3HP single phase motor will draw too much current at start-up, (up to 50A), too much for a 13A plug!

Mine works a 4 HP on 13 amp plug battery’s always go flat
