Does anyone recognize the Engine code.. s S 104 A … It doesnt tally with any of the information on date codes that I have ..
Presumably it’s late 1924 as its still got stub induction and yet has a letter prefix ..and I’d imagine S= 486cc Squirrel ? ..
104 doesn’t match any year number codes I have seen and also does anybody know the significance of the small s and the Capital A ?
Best regards
Keith
“S” does indeed indicate a 486cc Squirrel. I believe that during 1927 the numbers reached 5 figures and they started again, but with an “A” suffix.

I would have expected to see a three stud manifold on this crankcase ..
The puzzling thing is that it’s the push stub type ..
Perhaps the earlier manifold remained in production along side the three stud variety for a few years ?..
Maybe I think too much about things ..
Surely the two speeders maintained the “SCOTT” stamping in block capitals until the end of production? I have a very late four point fitting two speeder crankcase which has this style of stamping.

I was convinced that I had seen Super Squirrel type crankcases with the word Scott in cursive script rather than block capitals, and spent a couple of hours going through books and photos trying to verify that, with absolutely no success !
