Engine Cover

I am finally able to get around to getting my Scott going and roadworthy. I bought it a few years ago as a complete and running bike, however I decided that I should “do” the engine before I ride it. I have begun this, and have read Roger Moss’s hints and tips, and anything else I can get hold of in regards Scotts. I am sure I might need to ask more technical questions later, but for now my question is;
Should there be some sort of cover over the crankcases behind the barrells? Mine has a piece of aluminium sheet which is obviously a home made item. Bike is a 1930 Sprint Special fitted with a 1934 powerplus replica engine.

I think you’re refering to the mag chain cover. Most of them seem to be home made from ally to me, mine certainly is. It is meant to be there. It just follows the angle of the chain to the mag sprocket.
