Having just seen theres a downpipe/manifold on ebay for a “post war” Scott, What is the difference between that and an earlier bike. The one on our ’38 really lets the bike down but I can’t source a replacement. Could this one on ebay be adapted?
Have you tried Armours for a replacement exhaust pipe?
Armours list two right-hand siamesed pipes, one for rigid-framed (Shipley) Flying Squirrels, and one for sprung-frame (Brum).
Brian
They list them but dont have any 🙁
Very strange, as they are still advertising them in the ‘Classic’ magazines.

Alldens Exhausts will make you one in stainless, I think mine was about £160 about a year ago. It fitted perfectly and has been no trouble. I have no connection with the firm except as a customer. Phone no. is 01673862286 and their advert is in OBM.

Thanks Tony, Alldens are going to do me one 😀
Hi, when they did mine, they used my old one as a pattern and I think they made a jig from it. Are they using this jig and if so will it be suitable for your bike. My bike is a 1947 F.S. but I think the engine is 1939. I think you should be OK but it may be worth checking with someone more knowledgeable than I.
Good luck, Tony
Thanks for the heads up Tony, I’m leaving it with my father who is going to go there with our own original pipe so we’ll find out if they’re using the jig from yours or if they’re copying by pattern.
You will definitely need a satnav to find them!!

Unless you know where the top secret RAF Faldingworth used to be ! It was so secret that it wasn’t on any maps during the Cold War years. It has been said that Greenham Common held a lot less nukes than this place, and the Ban the Bomb lot never found it. Alldens are in what used to be the MT Section building. Not much to see these days, but there is a LOT underground…… In more recent years some ‘iffy’ arms dealing has gone on, and during the Bosnia nastiness over 70,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles went there, and allegedly ended up being sent to arm the Afghan army. There was a BBC programme about it, and the companies involved, a few years ago. Nothing to do with Scotts but interesting !!

I have an unused two-inch diameter left-hand stainless steel pipe on eBay at the moment. It is item number 141215571703.

This is very interesting Brian,
Well my dad dropped the old pipe off, so all is well….
the downside is they said it will take 2 months because they’re so busy. So doesn’t look like the bike will be on the road anytime soon! Unless someone has a pipe they could let us borrow for a short while!
I’m just surfing and read the mail back and forth, I hope you don’t mind. I also need a new exhaust, right hand for a ’47. Do you think this company would make one for me? Do you know if they have a web site?
Hi, I’m sure they would, as far as I know they don’t have a web site. My exhaust pipe was quite a while in the making and I wouldn’t be too happy about just ordering one even if they now have a jig. I think you need to go and talk to them, but maybe that’s just me being cautious.
