Flotsam and Jestsam

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and I would like to wish a Happy New Year to all.
Some time ago, I suggested that the equivalent of the Flotsam and Jetsam section (in Yowl) be included on the Forum, to enable SOC members to advertise parts etc that they wish to sell or buy.
Since nobody appeared to consider this a good idea, is it intended that this be restricted to Yowl or is (was, has, had it) been intended that it be covered in one of the current sections on the Forum?
I ask this out of interest only, as I currently have nothing to sell.

Regarding selling Scott spares, I would only consider using the forum if the facility was in the Members’ Area. There are too many wheeler dealers out there who would be keen to buy at “club prices” for selling on.
As for spares wanted, I see no problem in putting the request on the General Area, as I know you have done; it’s then up to you to decide who you want to buy from.

I think that it should also be realised that a goodly proportion of SOC members “of a certain age”, do not have internet access, and would therefore miss out on spares offered for sale on this website. I see no problem with ‘Wanted’ adverts though.

The “tipping point” of listing parts for sale etc on-line is going to have to come eventually no matter how old the general membership is, so why not send the for sale ads to the ed (or another designated person) to be up-loaded en-bloc a few days after the mag comes out?
Writing out ads on paper is a pain in the ‘arris in this day and age, and has always put me off from bothering over the years, but anything which can help to generate traffic to this site must be worthy of consideration.

When suggesting a Flotsam and Jetsam section on the Forum, I was thinking that it should be in addition to the section in Yowl and, yes, that it should be for SOC members only.
Having a designated person to include the adverts en-block would seem to complicate things.
Even a stupid old fool like myself (I know that I am a stupid old fool, because my wife told me and she never, ever tells lies) would use this facility.

I don’t mind either way, it was just a suggestion to counter the idea of all the “goodies” going to those online.
Actually though, are there any “goodies” to be had? I’ve never seen anything for sale at much/anything less than market value in the mag.

Why not use the existing spares listing section which is very under used,
Having a Wanted and for sale items in the magazine is ok, but could be open to abuse ,
if it’s put onto the web site under this members only section everyone gets an equal chance of getting or selling bikes or spares ,why should we all be held back by a few people who don’t want to come up to speed with technology

We should have the facility in the members area to buy and sell items,
it’s up to a seller if they want to use it or send an advert in for inclusion in the next magazine.

I’m only trying to stop you inflicting damage to yourself Dave lol
