…and no, its not mine although if it doesn’t start behaving itself soon then I may be interested in sensible offers!
As Club Registrar I would deplore the possibility of the Registration Number being sold. It is mentioned in the advert that the original number is transferable. There are too many Scotts that have lost their original reg nos and it is the one main way of retaining a bike’s identity and hence history over the decades. It also downgrades the value of the bike. There is a good reason why bikes and cars that retain their registration numbers and history from new are more sought after than one which have lost them.
In case it wasn’t clear, this bike is nothing to do with me. I just spotted it on eBay! It’s not me wanting to sell a reg no!
😀 😀 Got to be a 7.5plusK buy?? 😀 😀 Ted
And you won’t even get a toolbox for that !!
😀 😀 It’s a Scott Brian!!!!! 😀 😀 Why would it go wrong? Have faith my son!!!!!!! 😀 😀 Ted
My Scott hasn’t gone wrong. It just doesn’t go!
I am able to provide a new pair of the correct toolboxes to complete this fine looking bike. It is difficult to tell from the photographs the type of vertical mudguard stay, but I think I would even have suitable mounting bracketry!
Hello PPIt has been said that and I quote if the correct mixture is drawn in and compressed and then ignited at the correct time the engine must run . I don’t know the name of this twit it was most probably the same one that said life begins at 40 and 2 can live as cheaply as 1 . do know that he has not spent 53 of Scott ownership or ever owned a 2 stroke Allen scythe. Regards D F .
DF: Indeed! I am going to talk nicely to my Scott this evening on the off chance I can get it in a good mood before I try to start it again 😉
An Allen Motor Scythe eh ? My, you know how to be a masochist don’t you ? As if owning Scotts wasn’t enough…..
When 3.00×21″ rear, block tread tyres were virtually unobtainable, about 25 years ago, my brother-in-law, the late Doug Wright, robbed an ancient tyre from an Allen Scythe, and put it on his Scott Sprint Special, the ex-John Hartshorne machine that is currently owned by Martin Heckscher. Boy, was it age-hardened !?
Having used said Allen Scythe, I can confirm that they work very well, once you have managed to start the engine with a length of old clothes line, and not got tangled up with the rope… Pretty lethal though, and children, dogs, etc., have to be kept well away ! Excellent in long, overgrown grass on lawns, orchards, etc.. I used to think that those big disc wheels could be used on a Scott Sociable, with a bit of modifying.

😀 😀 Re the above post 😀 “”Hello PPIt has been said that and I quote if the correct mixture is drawn in and compressed and then ignited at the correct time the engine must run . I can see the naughty step looming here! 😀 😀 Ted
Brien I many years ago had a job part of it was demonstrating and selling garden machinery including the feared Allen scythe if you think that they were iffy try a Lloyds sickle mower . Spec a vertical shaft a pulley at the top atriangle plate at the bottom with 3 mower sections { as on A S cutter bar} same motor as the feard beast a v belt with a twist to convert from horizontal to vertical drive all bolted to a pair of angle irons with a pair of H D pram wheels not a guard to be seen upon pulling the starter cord it was 50/ 50 as to the brute remaining on its wheels or on its side if the latter the demonstrator if wise retired sharpish and waited until the carb flooded and the motor died. this is a true description that even now at 70 plus I think of as a dream.By the way the correct tyres for the Allen scythe were 21″knobelies with the inner knobs removed to stop the long grassfrom winding around the axels . Regards D F .
So sorry for booring the boots off of everyone.
