Dear all,
My daughter started at Manchester University last month so we had the chance to spend a couple of hours at the Museum of Science and Industry in the centre. I have to say it was a fabulous museum that I could have easily spent the whole day in. It was just a shame that they were not starting some of the big diesels in the engine hall until after we had to leave. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area. There is a separate aviation hall with some well presented exhibits (including an impressive Shackelton). I popped a couple of photographs of the Flying Flea that was there as it had a Scott engine. Brian was musing about the one at the Newark aviation museum at the last meeting so I contacted one of my work colleagues who has a husband that is a Trustee. His response was as follows;
“One Flying Flea from the museum went to the Aviodrome in Schipol, Holland back in 1977 ish. But we still have two Flying Fleas displayed in the ‘Flea Pit’ in Hangar 1 – a complete one and the fuselage pod of a second. The complete one was donated to the museum by the Troop family at Wellingore, Lincs”
Best wishes,
Keith
