Fuel range

Anyone have a rough idea of the fuel tank range of a ’47 Flyer?
Taking the old girl (hopefully!) to France in three weeks and need to know if a small auxilliary fuel can would be a good idea, given that petrol stations are both few and far between and usually shut in rural France….

Scotts seem to be wildly variable in their petrol consumption, and between 40mpg and 75mpg being ‘normal’. I’ll leave you to do the conversion to litres ! From memory your tank, with a separate oil compartment inside, will be holding about 2.75 gallons, so a minimum of about 120 miles between fillups ?

Hi, i often checked the MPG on my 57 Brum when “On Tour” to Scotland, Ireland, the IOM,and other long trips. The 600cc (coil ignition) engine and the (heavy )weight of the Late Shipley and the Brum will not return much more than 50 MPG, at 55/60 MPH. Blatting around on IOM Parade laps on the Brum ,reduced the MPG to 40/45 MPG! The Older the Scott the better they are on petrol,as the early bikes are a LOT LIGHTER. Regards Geoff.

A recent assessment on a 1929 600 TTR gave the following: Hills in Wales 5 miles / litre second gear work. Hills in Scotland 9 miles / litre top gear.

Easy running in Scotland 11 miles / litre. For oil the return was 400 to 450 miles / litre. Trust these are of some assistance.

120 miles between refills would suit me just fine. I don’t think I could manage that distance in one day, never mind the bike..!
