I’d like to thank Lewis for organising the Gathering at the National Motorcycle Museum on Sunday and for arranging such good weather. Not forgetting the others that helped out.
An enjoyable day but it’s a pity that we had such a poor turnout. Only nine Scotts and two Silks. Why do people join a club if they’re not prepared to support its events. I remember the days when we had turnouts of ninety to a hundred machines.
I was also saddened by the prices asked by some of those selling used parts. Shades of some of the prices asked at autojumbles and eBay , I thought that one of the ideas of being a club member was to help fellow members to enjoy a common interest. No wonder sellers some went home with almost as much stock as they brought to sell!
Very nice mug as well ,thanks Lewis
Thanks Dave and Barrie and to everyone who attended on Sunday. I regret that the offer of free entry to the museum, great weather and a central location failed to prove sufficiently attractive to prompt more members to attend. Perhaps we need a serious re-consideration of what members really want from the Club.
I enjoyed the day and thank you for organising it. I managed to buy a couple of bits which I needed plus a couple of other things which I didn’t need but wanted! I think that the last Scott owners meeting which I attended was at Bishops Castle steam rally many years ago! I have posted some pictures, taken on Sunday, in the photo wall section.

I too would like to thank those involved in organising the event. I share Richard’s sentiments concerning
the very low turnout, but enjoyed the day regardless.

I just hope that when I’m finally on the road, these kind of events will still be happening! The collective efforts of those who organise such events is very much appreciated, thank you very much.

I agree Lewis, but each time I have asked members what they want I get the same result, very few participants. When I saw this thread I thought it would be inundated with comments etc, but no, nothing from anyone who didn’t attend.
So what do people want and keep it clean as this is a public site, or email me. Kev, Yowl Editor (email in front page of Yowl).
I did not attend the Gathering this year due to another commitment although I did go to the Shuttleworth event which I enjoyed hugely.
My feeling is that the nature of members and times have changed. Those who remember the Evesham Gatherings, few now, and the Stanford Hall ones will recall the many Scotts that were there. Much of the enjoyment was in riding to the event and then meeting up with other owners. Few bikes were trailered and most of the people were enthusiastic riders. Roads were also quieter and generally speeds slower so it was still a pleasure in riding an older bike on a longer journey.
Nowadays the enthusiastic Scott riders are fewer and the majority of bikes are trailered to the event. That is not to say the people are not Scott enthusiasts but not so prepared to ride to and from the event. Our average age has also increased. One consequence is that taking a Scott to a static event is not very rewarding hence the drop off in attendees.
The Success of the Abbotsholme and Shuttleworth weekend events is due to a number of reasons. One is the opportunity to mix with other owners over a longer period of time. The other is to experience a ride out in company with other Scotts. This replaces to some extent the ride to an event and gives an opportunity to compare the differences between the bikes. There is still the opportunity for those who only want to commit to a one day event to attend on the second day knowing that there will be a good number of Scotts to see.
Ultimately it is down to the members to make a success of any event by attending as organisers can only provide a framework.
