gearbox undertray

Has anyone got a spare gearbox undertray , a outrigger with sprocket or a Lucas pancake generator case, they don’t need. thanks

Hi Eric,

When you say you need a “pancake dynamo case” do you mean the main steel body which holds the field coils and yokes etc. – for if so I can help you out – but I only have the outer alloy end cover.

Stan the one I want is the later Lucas one witch is all alloy.

I’m sure Brian is right – what you are describing is a Miller alternator – and due to limited manufacture, quite rare now.

Hi Eric,

Have you considered using the Lucas Dynamo? (I asume you have a “Birmingham” model.

Many say (me included) that they are much better than an alternator on a Scott, for although the alternator has a greater output, they create a considerable noise at low revs due to the magnetic reluctance, making the engine sound like you’ve left the big end rollers out. Using the Lucas dynamo with a solid state regulator is probably the ideal.

Good morning Stan can the lucas one be converted to 12volt, I need 12volt for the starter motor.

Hi Eric,

The dynamo does not require any form of conversion as such – it will provide 6 or 12 volts as dictated by the regulator.

All you need to do to convert is to wire in a solid state regulator, sure the polarity is correct – and of course change the light bulbs and coil etc. The 6v horn will operate at 12 volts at a pinch for the period it is in use, but I would advise not to do so if fitting electronic ignition.
