Hello every body,
Can any one out there help me out please, if need a 26t main shaft gear to repare my medium close three speed box, I have also a few wide ratio gears and assorted flyer bits for swop or I would buy if preferred.
Hi Andy,
Both David Holder and ‘British Only Austria’ can supply cogs.

I have been waiting for velocette to find the gears I need for months, they say they can’t find them, and british only don’t have any 26t, so still looking
I have ordered and received two medium-close sets from Holders minus the 26t one. I am assured that this one will come eventually.
Perhaps I should gee them up!
Geoff
I have received the 21t gear from Holders but as you say Geoff the 26t wil bee a couple of months, I think we will need to keep on top of them
Spoke to Velocette today and they told me ‘nothing planned at the moment – maybe in the future’, adding that the Scott gears were small volume and suggesting that if there was enough demand, they may pursue it.
It seems a shame that all the other gears are available to make up a ‘Medium Close’ set from ‘Modern Wide’, except for the 26T mainshaft first gear.
Not sure how much demand is out there.
I ordered a complete set (inc. built-up layshaft to replace my solid one) when the project was first mentioned in Yowl – October 2012! I have subsequently sent Velocette a couple of reminder e-mails but have been told to be patient. Do I get the impression that other people’s patience is wearing thin?
I think I am right in saying that there was a time when ScottParts were thinking of making the gears but left it to the Holders when this started.
So, Count me in if you are gauging the number of interested parties.
Would it be possible to source the missing gear elsewhere?
Jem
I don’t know if it helps but ive had lathe gears made by this chap and he advertises gear making

Not ideal, but would it be worth looking at the feasibility of having 26T gear rings made and then welded onto a ground down 29T main shaft gear? Or another way?
Hello folks, Holders are not returning my calls, so, if anybody has a 26 tooth main shaft gear they would be willing to lend me I think I have a gear maker that would make them, I don’t know at what cost, and what is the demand, some idea of numbers would help to bring the cost down.
During the the last ten years of refurbishing gearboxes I have had two requests for close ratio upgrades. It is understandable therefore that David is reluctant to accommodate requests for same. The main problem is not the 26T gear but the built up layshaft as many owners wishing to upgrade will have a solid layshaft.
I can send you a copy of the original works drawing for the 26T gear if you wish or if there is enough interest I could investigate manufacture on behalf of the club although I suspect this could be expensive.
Hello ed
If you could send me the drawings for the gears that would be wonderful, let me know how much I owe you send a PM with contact details. Many thanks
Hi, There is a close-ratio gear cluster C/W selector ‘wishbone’ on eBay at the moment….
Brian
thanks Brian
I’m on it
I wonder what it will make though!!
Andy
Unfortunately this cluster does not have a kick start square. Alan Noakes.
