Steve McQueen loved his motorbikes and had a stable that included a Scott 3 speed super. When he knew his illness was terminal, he sold most but gave his most treasured bikes to his friends.
The Scott went to Von Dutch, the high priest of the car and bike exotic art painters.
From Von Dutch it passed to Pete Gagan, President of the “Antique Motorcycle Club of America.
I know this because I was entrusted with carrying out remedial work on the engine.
I knew that Pete was tempted to enter it into a special themed auction at Las Vegas that featured cars and bikes with Von Dutch artwork.
I recently saw that it fetched $50000 or approx £25000.
Is this a record?
I have long hoped to see the valuations of Scotts rise to better reflect their true worth, but this is a quantum leap!
Now where are my paint brushes!
Kindest Regards to all
