Jumping out of 2nd

Hi all,

Our Scott (’38 3 speed) recently started jumping out of 2nd gear when going up the box, its fine when changing down. I would have initially thought worn dogs however this problem has only arisen after having the gear lever come loose while riding. I removed the lever and re-fitted, I believe everything to be correct but now this annoying problem has appeared. Does anyone have any ideas?

Adjustment of the short connecting link between footchange and gearbox is critical and tricky. With the gearbox cover removed you should check that on selecting second gear the dogs slide correctly into alignment and the ball on the detent arm drops into the pocket on the plate. The detent plate is held in place by two short 1/4 BSW screws and these can come loose leaving inaccurate detent positioning.
If all correct, I would suspect worn dogs.
