Hi, I am finalising the order list for the new Scott / Enfield rear brake drums with three fins, as fitted to various Scott models, including TT Replica, TT, Sprint Special, etc., from 1928 through to 1939. As mentioned previously these will be made from castings, and not machined from billet mild steel, so they should perform well, look the part, and resist rusting once painted with a heat-resisting cylinder enamel. Cost will be APPROXIMATELY £150, plus P & P. I say approximately because the cost of the batch of castings is currently vague, and will depend partly on the size of the order. Please note that I will NOT be repeating this exercise, so this may be your last chance to get a new drum from this source. As far as I know, the only other source is “British Only Austria”, who sell them as a Brough Superior part, with the three fins, but at a much higher price ( 295 Euros, plus P&P) I will close the order list in seven days, so act now if you want one….
My contact details are listed in Yowl under Eastern Section Information, or send me a PM.

PM sent several days ago expressing my interest to help with this endeavor, i am awaiting response…..Fred
Hi Fred, I did send you a PM response as soon as I got yours. Anyhow, your name HAS been added to the list.

And mine please Brian!
NB any connection with Richard Blackburn’s similar project a year or so ago?
OK Mike. No, there is no connection with Richard Blackburn’s project at all. I believe that he encountered problems with the person who has a casting pattern/tooling, and then decided to go it alone, but I have heard nothing since. Perhaps Richard would like to comment as I certainly don’t want to tread on his toes, but I was desperate for a drum, had no response from requests on this website, adverts in Yowl, and then when I tried an advert in the VMCC Journal I was contacted by a chap who has made them before, offering to make another batch. I just hope that it all works out OK as I don’t want to pay 295 Euros for one from the Brough Superior spares guy in Austria !

Hi Brian,
I have taken the rear wheel hub apart on my 1936 Flying Squirrel, awaiting a new brake drum. The rubber inserts looked almost OK but were extremely hard. Do you know whether there is a source for a set of new inserts (6)?
Kind regards,
Carl
Hello Carl,
I have two sources of supply, and the best is probably Jeff Hunter Engineering. If you can’t find them on the Internet let me know and I will try and find an old invoice to get their contact details.
Regards,
Brian
Carl, I have found the details:- Jeff Hunter Engineering, 35, Sandgate Road, Hall Green, Birmingham,

Hi,
I have now stopped taking orders for the drums, and confirmed an order for nine. I thought that more people than that wanted these things, but I am not really surprised at the poor response from members. Actually only six people placed orders as two members want two of them, and then there is mine……

Hi, This is just a quick update on the three-fin Enfield type rear brake drum project. I have just been told that the ‘blanks’ have been delivered, and machining to finished size should be started within the next few days. To those who have ordered them, thank you for your patience so far. Watch this space….

Hi,
Just a reminder that I now have a small stock of the rubber cush inserts for the sprocket on the other side of the Enfield type hub. They are £12-00 for a set of six, plus £2-50 for UK P & P. They are NEW, not age-hardened old stock. My contact details are as listed in Yowl under Eastern Section Information.

Hi Brian,
Are there more news about the brake drums? Are they nearly ready? My ’36 Squirrel is pawng the ground!
Kind regards,
Carl
Hi Carl, I will phone the maker tomorrow and see if there is any news.
