I am seeking a Sports Squirrel tank for my mid-1930 2-speeder; the one with the short steering head…
I have a tank that I would be happy to part exchange
Another picture.
Flying Squirrel 1928 I think I was told…
I might have one of these in the garage but I am not sure whether it is the longer 1929 Sports Squirrel version. I will check this as soon as I can and let you know.
All my fingers are crossed Lewis!
Best Wishes,
A little embarrassingly I find that I have two of the long frame 1929 types and one of the 1930 which you are looking for ! I attach some photographs so that you can see the state of it. The plunger which goes across the underside oil reservoir is missing as are the tank caps. I managed to adapt an oil plunger which I found on ebay when I was restoring my 1929 Sports Squirrel and the leather cup washers used are available – I can find details of the seller if you need. There are a few dings in the tank too and the fixing studs for the strap which secures the front end to the down tube have been removed will need to be soldered back in.
If this fits your needs please let me know. I would be happy with a straight swap, if you are. I have a 1928 bitsa project.
Brilliant.
Lewis, I am away until early next week and will be in touch thereafter.
Much appreciated
Peter
A nice little late Sports Squirrel Tank arrived yesterday through the post from Lewis.
That has made me a happy bunny.
The tank looks very promising.
Does anyone have a picture of the underside of the tank to show how the front bracket is arranged?
Hi Lewis
Would you have a tank suitable for my 1927 Scott Flying Squirrel it’s the same as the grey primered one show hanging in one of your photos. If you have got one and you are willing to sell it please let me know. My Mob is 07818664308. Many thanks John Jones

I had a 1929 & a 1930 long tank 2 speeders some years ago ,the 29 on had a groove in the front with two studs pointing forward for a curved clip with “ears”,The 1930 one had a sort of “M” shaped bracket curved in the middle with “ears” at its feet sweated to the tank & the same curved clip bolted to it around the frame tube. This all stood proud of the tank which had no groove in it. Good Luck GLYN
Hi Glyn,
Mine is the long slim tank with the brace bar going through it which has a hole each end for attaching to the frame. Someone may have one for sale. Many thanks for your response. John
Here is a picture of the underside of a late 2-speed Sports Squirrel tank showing the M-shaped bracket that Glyn described.
This image was very kindly sent to me by Ian Parsons and will help me to reinstate the missing brackets on my own tank.
Thanks again to Lewis for creating the opportunity to “re-sportify” my 1930 Sports.
I think that this must have been an upgrade for the 1930 model as the 1929 Sports Squirrel tanks I have merely have two threaded studs brazed into the front face of the tank and a strap which fits over them and around the down tube. I guess that the modification was needed to try to combat the flexing which occurs in the frame and hence the long tanks ( which do not have an integral tube like the similar narrow flyer tanks). The flexing in the frame seems to cause leaks in the long tanks.
Hi Lewis ,
My tank is the same as the one you have sent me photos of. Mine has a lot of small pin holes and leaking seams. If you are willing to sell the one you have please let me know together with a price. Many thanks John. My Mob 07818664308.
John if your old tank has Bar thro` the middle it is not a 2 speeder tank it was a “Flyer” tank. GLYN
